Legacy of Saisyoji Temple
A 530-Year-Old Temple with Samurai Roots
Nestled in the heart of Shinsaibashi, Osaka, Saisyoji Temple is a historic sanctuary that has stood the test of time for over 530 years. Established in 1494, this temple was founded by Ryōsai, a descendant of Tawara no Hidesato, a legendary samurai warlord. Originally from the noble Ashikaga lineage, he chose to leave behind his warrior life and devote himself to Buddhism under the guidance of the renowned Rennyo Shōnin of the Honganji sect.

A Temple Shaped by Time

Throughout history, Saisyoji Temple has relocated multiple times, adapting to the changing landscapes of Osaka. It has survived wars, political shifts, and natural disasters, yet its sacred teachings and tranquil spirit have remained unchanged. The temple has been a refuge for monks, warriors, and seekers of peace, offering a space to meditate, heal, and reflect.

What is Reiki Healing?

Reiki is a form of “hands-on healing” that originated in Japan. It uses universal life energy (Reiki) to help heal the body and mind. By placing hands on the body, practitioners are said to channel energy and enhance the recipient’s natural healing abilities.

Historical Background

  • Founder: Mikao Usui
  • Around 1922, Usui is said to have achieved enlightenment during a fasting retreat at Mt. Kurama in Kyoto, Japan, and developed the Reiki system
  • Later, he founded the “Usui Reiki Healing Society” to teach the technique
  • Reiki spread to Hawaii and the mainland U.S. in the early Showa period, and is now widely practiced around the world—especially popular in Western countries

Core Principles of Reiki

  1. The universe (nature) is filled with a constant flow of energy
  2. Practitioners act as a “channel” for this energy, allowing it to flow through them
  3. This energy is believed to balance the recipient’s body, mind, and spirit, enhancing natural healing power

90-minute Zazen Meditation
& Aromatherapy Massage

This plan adds a 60-minute oil massage to the “Zazen and Matcha Experience (45 minutes).”

Please remove your yukata, lie face-down on the bed, and cover yourself with a towel. Let us know your areas of tension and preferred pressure level.
We start with the lower body. Your muscles will first be gently warmed using bamboo to loosen the fascia, followed by a hand massage.
The hand technique involves applying gentle pressure using fingers and palms to promote circulation, release tension in stiff muscles and lymph nodes, and induce deep relaxation.
The bamboo heating is applied only to the lower body. The massage will cover from the soles of your feet to your head.

③ Matcha Experience
After the massage, you will experience making and enjoying matcha tea.

Our staff will take photos and videos of your experience using your smartphone and send them to you afterward.
